Electrical job completion reports with photos of what’s behind the cover

Once the dead front goes back on, your work is invisible. A short completion report with photos of the panel, the wiring and the labeling shows the customer — and anyone who works on it later — what you found and how you left it.

The electrical shot list

Photograph the existing condition before you change anything, then the same areas after the work is complete and tested.

What belongs on page 1

Page 1 should tell an inspector, a homeowner or the next electrician what happened:

Why it’s worth doing on every job

Disputes and callbacks. “The outlet you installed stopped working” is easier to sort out with a photo of the correct connections and a passing test on the day you left.

Pre-existing conditions. Writing down — with a photo — the aluminum branch wiring or overloaded panel you noticed but were not hired to fix protects you if it causes trouble later.

Inspections and sales. A dated record of the work, the permit number and the panel directory is useful to the homeowner at resale and to whoever opens that panel next. It complements the permit and inspection; it does not replace them.

Insurance. After a fire, storm or surge, insurers commonly ask for documentation of the damage and the repair.

How CloseoutCam builds it

Create a job, add the customer, address, date and technician, then shoot or import your photos and tag each one Before or After. Add a short caption to each photo and a few lines of notes. Tap Create Report and CloseoutCam lays out a page-numbered PDF with before and after side by side, ready to send by text or email from the iOS share sheet. Building the report works with no signal; sending it needs one.

With Pro, the Electrical template titles the report “Electrical Work Report”, suggests captions like “Panel before”, “Unsafe wiring”, “New device installed” and “Labeled and tested”, and prompts for panel and circuit details, wire gauge, breaker sizes, code corrections and the permit number. Every word stays editable. With Pro you can also circle the double tap, and put your logo and license number in the header.

The first 3 reports are free on the general contracting template, with a small “Created with CloseoutCam” line in the footer. Pro is $9.99/month or $79.99/year per Apple ID and adds unlimited reports, every trade template, your branding and photo markup, and removes the footer line.

The sample is a roofing job, but every trade uses the same layout; the Electrical template changes the headings, captions and prompts. Sample report uses illustrative photos — “Northwind Roofing” is a fictional company and the photos are AI-generated, not a real job.

Questions

What goes in an electrical job completion report?

Your company and license details, the customer, address and date, the permit number if any, panel and circuit details, code corrections, conditions found but not addressed, and photos of the existing condition, the new work and the finished, labeled panel.

Is the Electrical template included in the free version?

No. The free tier gives you 3 reports on the general contracting template. The Electrical template, your logo and license number, and photo markup come with Pro ($9.99/month or $79.99/year).

Does a photo report replace a permit or inspection?

No. It is your own record of the job for the customer and your files. Permits and inspections are still handled through your local authority.

Can I write my own wording?

Yes. Templates preload titles, captions and prompts, but every word is editable before you create the report.
